The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
