Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
âI am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,â the coach commented.
âIt would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.â
He added, âI accept my position. This isn't the first time Iâve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.â
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:
âWe communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they donât call me all the time each day to say they back me.â
He added, âIn the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.â
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the clubâs predicament.
âI donât have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,â the midfielder said.
âIt's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. Iâm past feeling anger internally. Iâm at the point currently where I just donât have the words.â
He went on, âIt's difficult because I play for the side I follow. Iâm a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.â
âIn a long, long time, I havenât experienced a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with performances so bad.â
Jones concluded, âHowever we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we will always battle.â
âWe will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.â
âAt this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.â
