New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was āpositiveā during their recent conversation.
āThatās what eases my mind, is that heās in good spirits,ā Glenn commented. āHis wife and child, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.ā
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as critical but stable.
āStill unsure,ā the coach said. āYet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, thatās what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.ā
NYPD issued surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts āa tonā since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.
āMy initial concern, he just had a kid,ā Glenn remarked. āI thought of his spouse, Iām thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
āA certain process is underway, which I wonāt get into, but Iām happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.ā
Boyd was inactive during the current season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.
āHeās been a part of what weāre doing,ā Glenn stated. āI mean, he comes to the games all the time. Heās fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.ā
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houstonās practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
