LeBron James's Legendary Point-Scoring Run Comes to a Close, Yet Los Angeles Secure Victory Against Raptors.
The Lakers star knew his historic run of reaching double digits was at risk. In that crucial moment, though, he wasn't bothered.
The right decision meant distributing the ball – and he executed. Following that play, his remarkable run came to an end.
LeBron's astounding streak of 1,297 consecutive regular-season outings scoring at least ten ended during a recent game, when basketball's greatest scorer finished with a mere eight points in the Lakers' 123-120 win against the Toronto Raptors. He made the decisive pass, feeding Rui Hachimura for a three-pointer at the buzzer.
“Nothing,” James replied when asked on the record concluding. “The team got the victory.”
An Unselfish Play Seals the Game
LeBron had the chance to attempted to win the game – and extended his record – in the closing seconds, but he chose to dish the ball to Rui in the left corner. Hachimura sank it, with LeBron raised his arms with his hands in the air.
“Just playing the game correctly. Make the right play,” James explained. “That’s just been my M.O.. That’s how I was taught the game. I’ve done that for two decades.”
He is fully cognizant exactly how many points he has during a game,” commented the team's head coach JJ Redick. He acted like he’s done throughout his career.”
The Streak's End Game
LeBron checked back into the game for the final time at just over five minutes left, the outcome along with the historic run both hanging in the balance. His tally was a mere six points from 3-of-15 shooting at that juncture.
He got a bucket at under two minutes remaining to level the contest and missed a 14-footer with one minute to go that would have pushed him to double digits.
He avoided taking a subsequent shot – though the opportunity was there. Austin Reaves found him with a few seconds left, but James decided to make the pass instead of shooting.
The spirits of the game, if you approach it the right way, they tend to repay you,” Redick stated.
The History of a Staggering Streak
The record started back in January 2007. It was easily the greatest such streak in professional basketball: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787 such games, and Karl Malone recorded of 575 games.
“He’s such a pass-first superstar,” said Lakers center a fellow Laker.
He simply plays the game of basketball. He had the opportunity but because of the player he is and just who he is as an individual, he chose the pass, found Rui and claimed the game.”
Reaching double digits had typically been a formality early in the fourth quarter began. During James’s streak, he had attained ten points by the beginning of the final quarter on the vast majority of occasions before this game.
However, two such games below ten points through three quarters had occurred recently: He recorded nine points entering the final quarter against Dallas on 28 November, followed by six going into the fourth against Phoenix earlier in the week.
LeBron was able to extend the streak in the Phoenix game. In the following contest, it was over – and he celebrated regardless.
My focus is to make the correct play. That is instinctive, regardless of outcome,” James affirmed. When you make the smart play, the game gods forever returning the favor.”
